Hope this help.
go for Samsung LCD — the DNIe technology makes it better than the rest of the pack…
Dollar for dollar, the very best 46″ HDTV, for both performance and reliability, is the Panasonic Viera plasma. Read the 3/08 HDTV article in Consumer Reports magazine at your local public library. Panasonic has been the top rated for several years in a row. Samsung is top rated in advertising.
If you go LCD, look at Sony Bravia and Toshiba, if you want reliability along with performance, but plasma is the best for most TV watching and movies, whether BRD or DVD.
I owned a Panasonic 80z 1080p for 3 weeks (50 inch). I took it back and brought home a Samsung (50 inch) 6 series plasma. I like the Samsung much better than the Panasonic. That is my opinion. If you want a natural looking picture then get a plasma. I think the 120hz technology is a gimmick to try and trick the eye for the lag that LCD technology inherently has. If fast motion is important to you and lighting conditions are not an issue pick up a plasma. Panasonic’s are very good TV’s but I personally found the Samsung to be a better overall value than the Panasonic. My Samsung was 60.00 more and has a much better picture than the Panny at the comparable price point.
The anti reflective coating, DNIE color processing engine and a myriad of adjustments makes it easy to tweak this set to get a perfect picture for your conditions. My set was 1665.00 on sale @ Circuit City. Also don’t be afraid to bring one home and demo it for a week or two in your home in your lighting conditions. That may make your choice easier. These are large purchases so make sure you are familiar with your stores return/exchange policy first. Also both the new Panasonic & Samsung Plasma’s have 100,000 hr panel life (which is about 30 yrs of viewing 7 hrs a day everyday).
Don’t worry about burn in or image retention as these new sets have pixel shifting technology that makes burn in near impossible to achieve in normal use.
Oh don’t buy the hype over the expensive HDMI cables either. The only way you need really expensive cables is if you have a run of over 15ft between devices. If you are using a stand and have 4ft or even 8ft run of cable go to Monoprice.com and pick up a cable. They are cheap and are high performers.
Good Luck!
