A very good question, however the most suitable choice will purely depend on what you will be using the TV for. The sizes you’ve listed are only available in LCD Panels.
This may help you decide between the two:
The Plasma Technology has been recognised for it’s depth, clarity and colours. Because the technology is instantenous there is no motion trail (Blurring) which makes it ideal for watching sports and fast action movies. Also they perform exceptionally well in dark environments. They can work out to be a fraction cheaper than a comparable sized LCD. Plasma are not recommended for intensive gaming use, as they tend to use up the resources a lot faster, which can lead to loss of brightness down the line
Now LCD TV’s use a mechanical technology, which can obviously cause a short delay in picture transmission, hence the reason some people experience blurring. They’ve now introduced 100Hz processors on LCD’s to help eliminate flicker and they also state the response time. The Lower the response time the better, but on a large sized panel, something around 5milliseconds will be satisfactory. LCD’s work well in brightly lit environments and are excellent for watching soaps, documentaries etc. Most of them can be used as PC Montiors also. They’re very good for games consoles and work well at reproducing grapical images
Many people offer opinions based on their own requirements or preferences, but you should base your choice on what you will be using it for
As for a reputable brand, it’s difficult to say, because it’s wiser to base your decision on the specifications and features of a paticular TV. Pioneer have excelled in the Plasma industry and Samsung seem to be topping the popularity chart second year running in the LCD industry, but Sony and Panasonic are not far behind, with LG and Toshiba surprisingly do well too.
I know it does’nt give you a direct answer to your question, however it might be a good idea to explain your requirements to an expert. You don’t neccessarily, need to go into a store, but you can even Chat to TV Specialist online with Comet.
Just go to http://www.comet.co.uk, then go to the TV section and click the Chat button. I used it when buying my TV and they we’re really helpful and I also learnt a lot
Samsung LCD
Try the Sony Bravia KDL-46X3500 (LCD) See link below:http://www.sony.co.uk/view/ShowProduct.a…
LCD! they run on chips while plasma tv’s run on gas and LCD tv’s will last you longer and ill suggest u buy the 46 inch samsung theyre the best brand in tv’s.
Forget Plasma, the technology is stale now and the prices aren’t coming down, whilst LCD screens are now as good as plasma and the prices and running costs are more affordable.
A couple of recommendations -
The Phillips 47″ for just over a grand -http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000RT973U/?t…
And the LG 50″ for for under £900http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000TLRZ4Y/?t…
plasma is the one to go for when you get bigger than 40 inch. less than that and the difference in picture quality is tiny so you may as well get the cheaper LCD. but plasma have darker blacks and are generally better the bigger you go. as for brand, not many people know that the korean firm LG actually make a lot of components for other top brands. get an LG. they’re pretty cheap too!
