I bought a samsung 46″ flat LCD about 14 months ago and now I am when I turn it on half the screen is black?
Only if it has been off like overnight, then when we turn it on in the morning half the screen is black, and you can’t see that side very well and then it goes away, my year warranty is up and samsung said they can’t help me, any suggestions as to what it is and the cost for a service?

It is cheaper for you to buy a new one.
This time consider buying an extended warranty.
Manufacturers do no longer make appliances, TV’s etc. to last. They design them to last only just long enough to work through the warranty period. That way they can sell you a new one ever couple of years.
Next time consider buying a line conditioner as well.
If you purchased the TV from a local dealer rather than a big store, then I would contact either you salesperson or the “service manager” at the store and see if there is anything they can do to help. Remember to be nice though, they’ll be more inclined to help you out. Good luck!
If you bought your tv 14 months ago and registered it, at that time they were offering 3 extra months of warranty. So you’d still be covered. I think if you call back and tell them you registered, whether or not you did, and that you are still under that 15 month warranty, they may help you. Ask for executive customer service, as they are the up one level and can offer better service.
If you are good tech wise and can solder i would open it up and check your fuses and resistors. Look for any burnt ones and replace them. I had an LCD monitor that went completely dim and replaced the burnt resistors and now works perfectly. Be careful when soldering to not put too much heat on the board.
