do you think a 46″ LCD HDTV is too big for a bedroom (20×20)

It depends how far you’ll be sitting from the TV. Another thing to keep in mind, if you go above 37″ you’ll probably want to go 1080p, not 720p, since that greater number of lines of resolution will benefit the viewing experience of a TV that large.
Just dont sit too close
these are the recommeded viewing distances for certain sizes.
30″ 3.75-6.25 feet
34″ 4.25-7 feet
42″ 5.25-8.75 feet
50″ 6.25-10.5 feet
56″ 7-11.75 feet
62″ 7.75-13 feet
70″ 8.75-14.75 feet
i think 46″ will be a very good choice.
A 46″ TV is the perfect size for being 8 – 9 ft away! Your minimum screen size at that distance is 32″ and your maximum screen size is 63″ (though in my opinion 63″ would be a bit overkill).
