Sceptre is $999.99 and Olevia is $1199.99
which one is better? Or is their better HDTV in this range

If that is all you can afford to spend I would recommend you buy a Samsung 42″.They are roughly around that price.
The 2 brands you have listed I have never even heard of but if they are that cheap in that size I STRONGLY recommend you stay away from them.
With new TVs you really do get what you pay for so I would suggest a brand name TV

i know someone who got the olevia 42″ 1080p 1600:1 6.5 ms. The picture looks awesome, good black level and colors. It is under 1000 bucks, the 42″ would probably work fine unless you have a big living room. The olevia has the best picture of any TV i have seen in that price range. Make sure to get an HDMI cable for 1080p hi def.
