Cannot get cable box from the provider. The cable is from Armed Forces Network, over a coax, and of poor quality. I want to buy an AV receiver that will upconvert both the PS3 and Cable input. i want surround sound from the PS3 and a better picture through the cable input to the receiver using HDMI out.

Does quality get better if I have HD cable service, or does it depend on the movie? Example: When going to a BEST BUY the quality looks so much better. Please let me know what I need to do for better quality. Thank you…Armyn.

I already use a digital audio cable from the cable box to my surround system. Will the Hdmi take away audio from the digital audio cable? Does it share or split the audio signal? Should I just use component cables?

I have a Samsung LN46A550 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV, and I have a LG DR389 DVD recorder/player. I found that the TV has HDMI ports but the DVD recorder doesn’t, but both have component cable ports.
